Richard Baxter is a well known British potter producing highly individual and collectable ceramic art. He has been a professional potter since 1981, when he graduated with a First in 3-D Design (Ceramics) from Loughborough College of Art and Design. |

Richard worked in terracotta as a student, emphasising the effects that stretching, compressing, cutting, pushing and joining have on the material. Pots were heavily thrown with minimal slip-trailing and glazing of insides and were nominally functional. Main influences were traditional English and Japanese country pottery. Over many years, Richard has developed a broadly based practical approach to his craft The test glazes pictured here illustrate the range of colours Richard has been working towards over the past couple of years. They are all fired to 1240c in an electric kiln. Richard's work varies from stylishly functional domestic earthenware pottery to beautifully fluid porcelain bowls and unique ceramic design inspired by waves and strata. Purple Gallery showcases a variety of Richard's coloured porcelain ware. |
