Margaret Bishop
Artist Biography
Statement

Margaret studied Fine Art in Birmingham during the early 1990s and developed a fascination for colour. This had been ignited in childhood days and blossomed further whilst sojourning in Europe during the 1970s. Experiencing Art of other cultures further informed her approach to colour though never interfered with her sense of British heritage.

In more recent years she has enjoyed teaching Art and worked as an Artist in Residence. Interaction with students and other artists helped fuel her own vision for her own work. Margaret no longer teaches so has more time to paint. Her paintings focus on colour and involves intuitive mark-making creating spontaneous subtlety, resulting in a harmony of hues. She works mainly in oils and watercolours, painting her response to nature and expressing a sense of abundant joy over God`s creation.

Margaret enjoys experimenting with the "stuff " of the paint medium itself. She likes to allow the painting time to develop as she overlays paint - colour on colour - exploring her own feelings whilst creating a sense of "history" in the painting itself. She is always seeking to express beauty and sensitivity amidst mood and atmosphere.
