Christian May’s work gives us an insight into his own personal world. His paintings are well observed responses to human behaviour and interaction, executed in the naïve school of painting. The naïve style of painting is categorised by a careful, simplistic approach to painting, in which the artist often uses bright colours and an unorthodox use of perspective to depict an event. Chris’s paintings reflect events that have actually happened throughout his life - whether it be a pigeon landing on a policeman’s helmet on a childhood visit to Hyde Park – or swimming with his best mate Gary - who really did have six toes! Most people will smile at seeing a Chris May painting, some will even laugh, but very few will not be affected or moved. |
