Penelope Timmis was born in Kingston-upon-Thames in 1956. She studied art in Shrewsbury and London at the Froebel Institue in Roehampton and returned to painting in 2000, having spent some years dairy farming and raising a family.
Penelope works from her farmhouse studio in the Shropshire Countryside and takes inspiration from her surroundings, using acrylic, watercolour, gouache and collage to create her paintings.
"The beauty of sunflowers is inherent. It is the light and instant colour that attracts me, in much the same way as the light which comes through a farm gate in a darkened country lane which has life hidden in the shadows".
