Award-winning landscape artist Richard Clare is known for his colourful and dynamic paintings of the northern landscape of England and more recently of Tuscany where he now lives with his family. In a very short space of time, Richard has gained a reputation for high quality, exciting and dynamic paintings. He has received media attention in national magazines and his artworks are included in many private collections throughout Britain and more recently in France, Italy, Spain and China. In 2006, Richard was one of 13 finalists selected from over 3,000 entries in an international competition organised by “International Artist Magazine”. His painting “Sunset over Derbyshire” won first prize. Richard drew his attention to the second city for the first time for Purple Gallery, contributing to an exhibition of Birmingham paintings in October 2008. His emotive landscapes very much capture the modern city: “The Transformation of Birmingham” depicts cranes redrawing the urban landscape, and in “Off to Work in Birmingham” commuters speed in to the city before a constantly evolving skyline. It’s all delivered in Richard's trademark style, interpreting rather than copying the landscape, using sketches and even memory rather than photographic reference. Richard has been inspired by a recent trip to Scotland and his latest paintings will be included in the "Scotland" show at Purple Gallery from 27th March to 25th April 2010.
