SCULPTURE GARDEN EVENT

Saturday 15th September 2007 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm

Visitors to the Purple Gallery Sculpture Garden will be able to see a stone carving demonstration by local Sculptor Adrian Holbeche on Saturday 15th September (between 2.00 pm & 4.00 pm).

Adrian has been working with stone sculptures for the last twelve years, undertaking commissions and working “in all weather” from a workshop at the top of his garden.

Adrian enjoys the physical nature of stone carving and is inspired by the great variety and differing characteristics of stone. The process of reduction from the initial block or piece, the tools that are used, the marks made and the varying techniques and effort required, mean that every piece offers a new challenge for him. Adrian has produced many figurative pieces, but coast and beach- related themes have recently acted as starting points for some of his work.

Adrian has produced simple carved pieces from beach pebbles and rocks to larger more intricately commissioned pieces, including the Ripple Water Sculpture currently featured in the Purple Gallery Sculpture Garden. Come and observe Adrian working on one of his latest stone sculptures and see a range of his finished pieces. If you are thinking about a Sculpture for your own garden, this will be an ideal opportunity to talk through your requirements with Adrian.

SUMMER EXHIBITION (continues until Saturday 29th September 07)

New Work by Established Gallery Artists
This exhibition features new work from more established Purple Gallery Artists and includes a new series of paintings by Birmingham-born Louis Parsons.

Louis has produced further paintings in his Cosmos and Celestial Being Series and these are on display in Purple Gallery until the end of September.

Alongside his recent seascape paintings, Colin Carruthers has produced two oil paintings of shops near to the Gallery in Bournville. Small shops in our neighbourhood today still bring service to local communities at a time when large companies sometimes monopolize and then change the face of the high street.  The paintings Levertons and Rowheath Road attempt to convey the shops’ originality and distinctiveness as they bring a uniqueness to our surroundings.

The Red Teapot

There are five new paintings to the Gallery by Terence Clarke. Terence's work is characterized by strong drawing and the use of bold colour and is highly regarded for its composition.
